What to do when the touch screen is unresponsive?
2025-09-05 16:35:20

When the touchscreen becomes unresponsive, it could be due to a variety of reasons, including software glitches, hardware issues, and external interference. Here are some common troubleshooting steps to help you troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

Initial Inspection and Simple Solutions

Cleaning the Screen Surface

Check the screen for oil, water stains, or dust, which may interfere with touch control.

Gently wipe the screen with a clean, slightly damp cloth. Avoid using alcohol or abrasive cleaners.

Check External Devices

If an external keyboard, mouse, or stylus is connected, try disconnecting it to see if this restores normal operation.

Some devices may experience touch issues due to conflicts with external accessories.

Restarting the Device

This is the simplest and most effective solution. Press and hold the power button to force a restart (or follow the device's instructions).

Restarting the device clears temporary cache and software conflicts.

Troubleshooting Software Issues

Update the System or Drivers

Go to the device's Settings menu to check for system or touch driver updates.

Outdated system versions may cause touch compatibility issues. Turn off power saving mode or high performance mode.

Some power saving modes can limit touch sensitivity. Try turning them off and then testing.

Check recently installed apps.

If the problem occurs after installing a new app, it may be due to an app conflict.

Enter safe mode (press and hold a specific key, such as the volume down button, while the device is powered on) and uninstall recently installed apps.

Restore to factory settings (procedure with caution).

If the problem persists, back up your data and try a factory reset.

Note: This will erase all data, so back up your data beforehand.

Check for hardware issues.

Check for screen damage.

Inspect the screen for cracks, scratches, or internal display anomalies (such as black spots or color bars).

Minor damage may not affect the display but may affect touch performance and requires professional repair.

Check the touch IC or cable.

If the device is removable (such as a tablet), check the touch cable to see if it's loose or detached.

Non-expert users are advised to contact customer service to avoid further damage caused by disassembly.

Environmental interference.

Extreme temperatures (high or low) may affect touch sensitivity. Avoid using the device in environments with strong magnetic fields or static electricity.

Specific Device Handling Recommendations

Mobile Phone/Tablet:

Try testing with another finger or stylus to confirm whether the problem is with the finger skin (e.g., wearing gloves or wet hands).

Check whether "Glove Mode" is enabled (some devices support it, but it may be triggered by mistake).

Computer/Monitor:

Check whether the "Touch Screen" function is enabled (some devices require this in the BIOS or settings).

Check the monitor cable (such as HDMI or USB) for loose connections.

Car Monitor:

Restart the car system (e.g., press and hold the power button or turn the car off and on again).

Check whether the touchscreen malfunction is caused by high temperature. Stop the car and wait for it to cool down before testing again.
